Hosting the Grammys requires a lot of things: talent, timing, and a perfectly fitted suit. This year, our own VIP Specialist Tailor handled the latter – tailoring all of Trevor Noah’s looks for one of the biggest nights in music.

Noah arrived on the red carpet in a Ralph Lauren suit – rich black with a subtle print. For the ceremony itself, he changed into velvet suits: one Ralph Lauren, one Armani. All three came through Alts!
On the jackets, Galina raised and lowered the collar on the Ralph Lauren purple velvet for a cleaner back line, added functional buttonholes with buttons across two of the three jackets, shortened the sleeves on the purple velvet piece from the shoulder (one of the most technically demanding sleeve alterations, requiring the entire sleeve head to be reset) and took in the sides and blades to sharpen the silhouette. On the Armani, the focus was precise button and buttonhole work to finish the cuffs correctly.
The trouser work was equally considered: hemming, waist and seat adjustments, and a full leg taper on the Armani trousers to get the right line from hip to ankle.
Velvet is one of the more unforgiving fabrics to alter – its pile can be permanently marked by the wrong needle or pressure. It’s the kind of job you want in experienced hands.

Galina’s relationship with sewing itself also started years ago. Growing up in Ukraine, she was making clothes for her dolls in day care and sewing for friends by high school, helped along by a school that offered formal sewing lessons. She has been tailoring professionally ever since, and has been part of the Alts team for over four years.
