First Fitting

2-3 months prior to your wedding

During your first fitting, our fitter will discuss the types of alterations that are needed to achieve the brides desired fit and provide a quote for alterations. We will then pin the dress so that you can envision what the end result will look like! At this point, 1/3 of total payment will be collected.

Second Fitting

4 - 6 weeks prior to your wedding

Our tailors will baste the alterations discussed during the first fitting, but will not cut any fabric which will allow you to see a preview of the end result. These alterations are not permanent and can be adjusted as needed. The tailor will typically review bustle options for your dress during this fitting. The second payment will be collected.

Bridal FAQ's

  • How long will my fittings last? How many fittings will I need?

    The first fitting will generally last one hour as your tailor begins to assess your dress and the alterations needed. Following the first hour-long appointment, each subsequent fitting should take less time since the dress is getting closer and closer to the perfect fit. How many fittings you’ll need may all depend on the number of alterations required and how much your body changes during that time.

  • What should my budget be? How much should I expect to spend?

    The majority of our alterations fall between $600-$1500, depending on the extent of work, type of fabric, etc. We will give you a cost estimate in your initial fitting. Unfortunately, we cannot give quotes over the phone or via email without seeing you in the gown in person.

  • Can I customize my garment?

    More extensive changes can be made with enough budgeted time and money (these will cost more). Customizations include adding details like off-the-shoulder straps, sleeves, train length, lace appliqués, beading, buttons, and a bustle. We love helping you to personalize your look! Whether you want to add an illusion neckline, add sleeves, make a topper, create wings or a cape, or even add beading or lace, our team of expert designers and seamstresses can help you create your dream dress!

  • What alterations can be made to my garment?

    Your seamstress can do a lot for you — from adding sleeves/straps to changing the neckline, lowering the back, and even making an overskirt or lace topper for an alternative bridal look. The degree of alteration possible will vary depending on how the dress is constructed in some cases. Certain alterations could compromise the structure of the dress. Some common alterations include adding a waist stay, shortening the straps, altering the closure, altering the neckline, and changing the back.

  • What should I bring with me to my fittings? What should I wear to my fittings?

    Please bring shoes of the heel and platform height you plan to wear (so we can mark your hem), and any undergarments you plan to wear to all of your appointments, and if you have multiple options, your seamstress will help you pick which will work best for your body type and shape. Bringing bridal accessories, such as earrings, necklaces, and totes, is also a good idea if you want to incorporate them into your wedding attire.

  • How far in advance should I schedule my first fitting? Do you offer rush services?

    At Alts, we make it simple and easy to schedule your fittings according to your timeline and schedule. We recommend starting the process 2-3 months prior to your wedding date. However, we accommodate for rush services at an additional cost. Please contact the studio you are visiting to inquire about our bridal rush services.
