Welcome to Alts!
Upon arriving at our studio, you will use a QR code to check in online. Sharing some garment details in advance helps us get ready for your appointment and ensures a smooth experience. Then it's off to the fitting room!

Inside the Fitting Room
During your fitting, your fitter will discuss the types of alterations that are needed to achieve your desired fit and will pin your garment so that you can envision what the end result will look like! Following this, your fitter will provide you with a quote for alterations.

Try-On and Take Home
After we work our tailoring magic, expect a friendly text and email from us letting you know your garment is ready for pick-up. Swing by, and our team will be thrilled to assist you in trying it on in-studio to ensure it fits just the way you want. Your satisfaction is our priority!

Do you offer both standard and bridal alterations at this location?
Yes. Our East 87th Street studio provides expert standard alterations for everyday garments as well as specialized bridal tailoring to ensure wedding gowns and bridal party attire fit perfectly.

How long will my fittings last? How many fittings will I need?
Our standard fitting appointment lasts for 30 minutes. If you feel you might need more time or have specific requests, please feel free to ask our friendly staff at the front desk, and we’ll be happy to accommodate your needs based on appointment availability.
The number of fittings required depends on the complexity of your garment and the alterations needed. Typically, we aim for one fitting and then proceed to your garment’s final try-on and pick-up. However, in some cases, a second fitting may be necessary. We’ll always communicate this with you before moving forward with any additional alterations.

What alterations can be made to my garment?
The alterations that can be made to your garment depend on your specific needs and preferences. At Alts East 87th Street, we offer a wide range of tailoring services, including but not limited to: Adjusting fit, hemming, sleeve alterations, darting, zipper and button replacement, lining repair or replacement, repairs and patching, customizations, and more! To determine the alterations needed for your garment, we recommend scheduling a fitting and consultation with our experienced team. We’ll assess your garment and discuss your preferences to provide tailored recommendations for achieving your ideal look and fit.

What should I bring with me to my fitting?
When coming in for your fitting appointment, it’s helpful to bring the following items with you:
1. The Garment to be Altered: Please bring the specific clothing item that you would like to have altered. This allows our fitter to assess it accurately and make precise recommendations.
2. Undergarments: Wear the undergarments or shapewear that you intend to pair with the garment. This ensures that the alterations take into account the fit with your preferred underlayers.
3. Shoes: If your garment involves alterations to the length, such as hemming pants or a dress, bring the shoes you plan to wear with it. This helps our fitter determine the appropriate length for your garment.
4. Accessories: If you have accessories, such as a belt or jewelry, that you plan to wear with the garment, it can be helpful to bring them along to see how they complement the final look.
5. Ideas and Preferences: If you have specific ideas or preferences for how you want the garment to fit or look after alterations, feel free to share them with our team during the fitting. This helps us understand your vision and tailor the alterations accordingly.

How far in advance should I schedule my fitting? Do you offer rush services?
You can book an appointment as far in advance as you’d like. We recommend you come in as soon as you know you need alterations so that we do not have to rush anything! However, we understand that sometimes we need things done quickly! We will do our best to accommodate rush requests and the team will communicate with you transparently on what can be done.

Which of your studios are wheelchair accessible?
Our East 87th Street location is currently not wheelchair accessible. While not all of our locations currently meet full accessibility standards, we are continuously working to ensure each of our spaces is as comfortable and accommodating as possible.

Making things bigger is much harder than making them smaller but the tailor got it done for me in 48 hours. First, she let the top out as much as possible and I came back the next day to try it on again. Then she figured out exactly how to make it work, including moving some clasps around.
